Open Montessori Initiative (OMI), founded in June 2007, was conceived and created to make Montessori education more accessible to a broader spectrum of children and their families.

At OMI, our vision is to promote and expand the work of Dr. Montessori in rural and urban communities. Through a full range of programs, we aim to help establish demographic, socio-economic, and geographic connectivity.

As a non-profit corporation, donations to OMI are tax deductible*. With your donation and membership, OMI is able to support scholarship and financial aid programs, parent education, professional development for the Montessori educator, and lobby legislation in support of the rights of the Child.

OMI strives to open up access to quality programming for all people. With this in mind, we seek to work with Montessori schools which aim to provide students with a Montessori education as outlined through the guidance of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). We are open to serving all communities that promote the work of Dr. Montessori. Preference is given to nationally accredited programs which consistently meet the pedagogical standards, principles and practices set forth by Dr. Montessori.

We do not assess the program quality based solely on the affiliation of the school but through the totality of the program and the implementation of the Montessori Approach.
